Job Description (Total Position: 1)

Provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care across assigned units, including the Triage, Antenatal Care (ANC), Birthing/Delivery Unit, Maternity Ward, Newborn Unit (NBU), Postnatal Care (PNC), Inpatient Department (IPD), Family Planning (FP) clinic, PLWG Nutrition zone, and Sterilization Room.


Assess, monitor and provide routine nursing and midwifery care to women during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods according to established clinical protocols and infection prevention standards.


Conduct normal vaginal deliveries, perform episiotomies, and manage perineal tears when necessary.


Assist doctors and senior nursing staff in managing obstetric emergencies, complicated deliveries, breech presentations, and twin births.


Identify high-risk pregnancies, labor complications, and maternal or neonatal danger signs early, ensuring timely escalation, stabilization, and intervention.


Perform neonatal resuscitation, provide immediate newborn care, receive babies post-delivery, and ensure appropriate stabilization and timely referral to the NICU when required.


Administer routine newborn medications and immunizations in strict accordance with national and organizational guidelines.


Support and counsel mothers on exclusive breastfeeding, newborn care, postnatal recovery, maternal nutrition, and family planning methods.


Assess patients in triage, prioritize emergency cases (triaging), monitor vital signs, obtain accurate medical histories, and facilitate prompt clinical management.


Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient records, including nursing notes, labor monitoring charts (partographs), and referral documentation.


Coordinate and accompany patients requiring referral to higher-level facilities, ensuring safe transfer and the completion of all referral paperwork.


Adhere to strict Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards, universal precautions, aseptic techniques, waste management protocols, and safe sterilization practices.


Prepare and safely administer IV fluids, medications, and infusions as prescribed and per clinical guidelines.


Ensure the availability, cleanliness, and proper maintenance of medical equipment and supplies, proactively coordinating with the supervisor for stock replenishments.


Participate actively in ward handovers, multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussions, and continuous quality improvement activities.


Deliver targeted health education to patients and caregivers regarding pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, nutrition, hygiene, immunization, and maternal danger signs.


Uphold organizational policies, clinical protocols, ethical standards, and patient confidentiality while ensuring safe, respectful, and high-quality care.


Languages


Essential – Proficiency in Urdu and English is essential.


Desirable - Proficiency in any local language is desirable; Balochi, Brahvi, Sindhi.
